from the January 2008 issue of Automobile Magazine:

"So the toughest choice may no longer be between the Infiniti and the BMW. It's between the G37 and the G35."

I posted this before it was released (got a pre-release view & drive )
------------------------------------
My impressions:

Looks - I'm not any more pleased than I was with the pics... I said I'd wait till seeing it in person before judging - I just don’t like it much. It's pudgy and much less aggressive looking than the concept (even in person)... From the front at a distance the car looks like it has a silly grin with dimples – cute for a chick I guess… Small things like the line from the fender doesn’t flow to the headlights & the trunk looks like it’s popped open when it’s completely closed due to the big gap – Not enough to bug me too much but little things add up… I quite like the previous gen better. 07 sedan looks much better to me as well.

The interior is very similar to the 07 sedan (which I don’t like personally).

Exhaust - at idle it is very tame. Can’t even hear it really... under throttle it's still very tame - does not have as throaty of a sound as the previous versions. (the car has 5K miles).

It has all the goodness that the new sedan has – dual hood latched, seal around entire engine compartment, dual intake of course… they put the dipstick in a very accessible location and it’s STRAIGHT!!! (not sure why this took so many years)… fit & finish is much more impressive than previous gens… felt very solid. If you’ve driven the 07 sedan you know what I’m referring to…

Driving impressions: Didn't knock my socks off like I thought it might. It has decent trq... I'm so use to driving modded 3.5 that it's hard to compare... it will blow away a stock 3.5 obviously... oddly enough the 07 AT sedan seems to have as much off idle as this MT 37 - but that doesn't last long - once into 2K-2.5K it goes. The steering is just odd to me, to stiff and chunky... the overall feel was too chucky. Steve Millen apparently loves the steering (he's a race car driver so his impressions are much more valuable than mine)... I didn’t push any corners but the "chunky" feel might disappoint me in spirited turns.

My quick test drive although much more spirited than would be at the dealer was very brief – no farther than would be with a dealer… but it was enough for me to know I’m not interested in getting one.

In summary, it's a fine car but I don't think many current owners are gonna rush out and trade up... like the 07 sedan - it's very good but I wouldn’t get rid of my car to own one. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the 07 sedan or 3.7 coupe to new G buyers... I'm still hoping Nissan puts at least a turbo version in the Infiniti line within the next couple of years... then things will be way different!

The review is brief and only what matters to me… there will be much better reviews when higher mile test drives are completed… I’m staying in my 04 sedan for now.

This view certainly puts Infiniti on a more even footing with BMW........which is quite an accomplishment.....
