i have a dilemma, and i am hoping someone can shed some opinion on it.
My wife traded in her gas hog lincoln aviator the other evening, and purchased a 2005, G35, with 40k miles on it for $23,000 (A bit more than i would have liked to have paid, but we the trade in value/amount owed on the lincoln caused the price)
Anyway, she fell in love with the car, of course, and since it still has manufacturer warranty left on it, i decided it was an ok deal. I did not opt to purchase the extended warranty as it was another 2400 bucks.
We drove it home and all was fine, the next day, we drove it, and i decided to test out the engine, and punched the accelerator from a dead stop. the engine roard, the wheels squalled, and then the SLIP light came on, the VDC off light came on, and the Check Engine light came on.
We then turned to take it back to the dealer to see whats up. They told me they could fix it, and i am sure they can, but it just does not give me the warm and fuzzy feeling now that i should have when i go and purchase a car. I told the dealership the only thing that would cause me to keep the car and feel good about it at this point is if they fix it, and give me a free 100k mile certification/extended warranty.
What are your thoughts on this situation. is the G35 a reliable enough vehilce, or should i just scratch the deal, and give them the car back?
I appreciate any input, as i need to make this decision by tomorrow morning when i call the dealership about this situation again.
thanks!!

What was the issue with the car?
New vehicles have issues, not to mention, used vehicle with higher mileage. If you are attempting to position yourself for an extended warranty, that's a different story.

Do not know the issue yet. this happened saturday afternoon, and the service department was not open. so i had to leave it there, and wait until monday morning when a diagnosis can be made.
When it happened though, it was like the gas pedal disconnected from the engine.
Essentially, when this happened, the car was driving fine, and then the SLIP, and VDC lights came on. the engine remained running, but if i gave it gas, the engine would not react, nor would the drivetrain. the RPM's were remaining around 2500, i was able to put it in nuetral, and nothing, put it back in drive, nothing, just coasting along. not until i would turn the car completely off, and then back on again, would it become driveable again.
this happened a total of three times while driving it back to the dealership.

I highly doubt they will give you a free extended warranty… just because you have a problem with the car that will be fixed under warranty

safety ,mode, sounds like. probably low brake fluid with the vdc lights on and brake light AT SAME TIME. They will fix it. Dont sweat it.check engine light, needs code pulled. COuld be related, might be separate issue. Let everyone know the results.

lol..the exact same thing happened to me 3 weeks after i bought my used '04.....all the lights randomly came on and i lost power....just like you said. Turns it the throttle body needed to be replaced, no biggie..got a nicer loaner from the dealership, got it fixed and washed for free and I was on my way..congratulations on your purchase....I've had mine for about 2 months now and from all that I've read and seen, they're pretty sturdy cars...However, I did purchase an extended 48mo/48k mi extended warranty for 1500...with the added bonus of getting all of my money back if i don't use it into the first three years.

ha mine did it too.... still had a paper tag! All I did was turn the car on and off. problem gone. I had my mechanic friends pull the code and it was the throttle body. never been an issue since and hasnt been replaced.

+1 on finding out what the deal is.
Make sure you ask them what is the problem today.

I got it from a Nissan dealership. Ok, the diagnosis was the throttle body, which the svc department said is fairly common, and simple to do on these. So, i am fine with that. I have not gone back to the dealership to pick it up, but i will still try for the free extended warranty, and i am fairly certain i will be able to pull that off. Thanks for the replies.

sounds like what mine did a few says ago, lights came on and it felt like it was running out of gas, bearly any acceleration when you gave it gas. didn't trn it off or anything it just went back to normal after 30 sec, pulled the code the next morning and it said Throttle position sensor fault.
