...Because of a lot of negative threads I'm reading on here of issues with the car (oil consumption and engine malfunctions).

So should I really be looking at one of these cars? Or am I better off looking at a GTO, or something else? I really love how these cars look and I've always wanted to come on, but if it isn't reliable...I may be better off driving my Civic.

 

If you like them and it makes sense financially (keep in mind the less than stellar gas performance (18MPG or so) then I'd say do it. Just do you research so you know what you're getting into, but I love my 05, which has the oil consumption issues that everyone talks about...

GTOs are ugly as hell IMO and I'm sure most will agree on here, considering that we all have G's, whether Sedan or Coupe, which anyone with a decent eye (yes, completely biased but not too off I don't think) would realize.

The step-up from a Civic would be HUGE as well.

They're great cars but like all have their faults here and there...

got my 06 sport coupe 6mt about three month ago. it does have some problems, but i still love the car. it's still worth it for me. besides, it's still under warranty so no problem.

I love my 04 g35, I get compliments on my car all the time, but it is high maintiance. Nothing is cheap to fix on this car. Search the treads there are countless problems with this car. Noises, bad tire ware, loud road noise, transmission problems. You have to clean your wheels everyday due brake dust. If I knew everything, I knew today, I would have spent 20000+ on a better car. Also how many other cars in great condition lose half there value in 3 or 4 years?

 

every car will have its problems... as for the oil consumption i wouldnt worry since the car already has almost 40K miles...

i have an 05 6MT (just hit 38K miles) with no oil problems and the only problem iv had is the door lock actuator went out and that was replaced under warranty

 

Wow, I'd say you're in the minority here...

Countless problems with your car maybe, but not altogether and overall. There are quirks and what not as said above, but saying that it's just full of problems would be a stretch IMO.

Just do you research and ultimately you need to personally decide if the car is or isn't for you.

 

everyone sees all the bad sides because everyone complains about the bad stuff. but heres the deal, my car is amazing, so its needed a few minor things and the paint is sub-par... ill take my G over any other car listed and run.

The car I'm looking at has a warranty until 2011 or 70,000 miles, so I'm pretty relieved to see that. Is this car easy to work on yourself for basic maintenance (oil change, serpantine belt change, spark plugs, etc.)??

 

if you can get it for a great price i say go for it! check the dipstick (and other fluids) and see if the oil is only half full and tar black. might give you a clue as to how the car was maintained or how much the seller put into reselling it. also remember that your civic probably has a ton more useable space in it despite it being a smaller car. i'm coming from a maxima so that was the first thing apparent. i love the engine sound and RWD handling! i've always had a VQ under the hood! if it snows in your area and this is your primary DD you'll need a set of used Z33 or V35 rims with dedicated snow tires. i drive this thing to work and to the ski resorts during snow sleet or rain with little difficulty. despite it being a little impractical the good looks and stance keep me coming back for more

 

I think the price is killer, especially because KBB said it was worth $28k!

Buy my car. No oil consumption! Its faster too!

Don't worry about the issues people report. the only things posted are from the few who are trying to fix things. Others without problems (like mine) don't post about it. Plus, that car should have quite a while left on its 4 yr-60k mile warranty that covers almost everything.
