What you are seeing is stress in the plastic from forming. Seriously, borrow someone's polarized sunglasses and look at them in the light. You'll be surprised. You can also see it in windows that have been heat formed to a curve with multiple small heat sources like the side windows.

Look up birefringence.

I know what you are talking about with polarized lenses...my oakleys are like that. But you can see these with bare eyes, I don't have polarized filter on my camera.

I think the polarized lenses just makes it more pronounced. Just like you can see a rainbow without polarized lenses also.
