Transmission Question !@#$!@#$

Hey everybody! I am a fairly new G35 owner and had a question that I could not find an answer to by searching the threads. I have an 03 5AT and have a question about shift points. When I am in D and moving about 48-50 MPH I can not get the car to shift to second gear when I floor the gas pedal. I know that second is good through about 63 MPH but even at 48 MPH it will not shift into second!! So when I am in D and doing about 50 MPH and really want to get on it the tranny will only down shift to third and it is driving me crazy cause I want it to kick down to second and pull from 48 MPH through to 65MPH in second. Anyone else experience this? Can I change this in any way or do I need to take it to the dealer? In manual mode I can shift it but I dont always want to have to drive in this mode to have it work. Thanks in Advance!

let off the gas pedal completely first, and then floor it.

This goes for any automatic tranny...

Duh......=P

Thanks for all the help.....(2 weak replys) I guess I ll just take it to the dealership. Thanks for letting me know that in an automatic for it to down shift you have to floor it. That is some precious information....LOL!

Mike was making the distinction between flooring it from the current throttle position (say 25%) and briefly letting off the gas, and THEN flooring it. Not a weak response - especially because it does not appear that you have tried his suggestion.

No offense.

Didn't mean to offend. Was just pissed cause I am tired of it not down shifting. The lifting off the accelerator and then fully depressing doesn't make a difference ( I tried it). I dont know why it would. Full acceleration should be full acceleration. I am just going to take it to the dealership and have them look at it. Thanks!

Thx that comment really helps. Just to let you know I took it to the dealership this weekend and they fixed the problem. They adjusted the idle, ignition timing, and throttle reponse. It down shifts perfectly now!!!

Try an ECU reset next time. Also there are throttle body resets and gas pedal calibrations you can do at home that seem to make the car overall much more repsonsive and the reset grossly changes the "attitude" of the tranny. Your problem may come back as the TCU/ECU relearns your driving again. I'd not want to see the dealer making more money than they already do. Check some old threads and you'll be surprised what's been written already. Search with "tranny lag", or "transmission shift delay".
