car pinging because of different gas??? WTF!

Last weekend it was over 90 degrees and i had filled up at a different gas station, shell and chevron combined. Well i was driving the car hard the whole weekend on my way to the beach and i noticed a lot of pinging throughout the trip. Anything above 5500 rpm the car pinged like there is no tomorrow. Sometimes i thought engine was going to explode or somesh!t. Well sunday i filled up from the regular place that i usually fill up, which is a local 76 gas station and the pinging completely went away. I tried both maps (stock and performance map) and there was absolutely no pinging. It was about the same temp on Sunday and I kept flooring it and could not hear a single misfire.

How different can the gas be if both are 91 octane, apparently a lot different. Just wanted to share and hear ur opinions about this.

That's weird, I have been using Chevron the whole 3 years that I've had my car (Shell once in a blue moon) and have not experienced any pinging.

I dont think it has to do with the brand, i think it was just those two particular gas stations (shevron and the Shell). Maybe because of these gasprices they mixed other crap with the gas?

My G will ping badly with that Shell V-power crap. I use BP because they offer 92 in Kansas City where every other station sells 91. When I lived in ATL I was getting 93/94 and the car really did like it. Back to the point, there is something wrong with that V-power stuff and our engines. It's not a good mix.

It literally sounds like little metal *****/pellets being shaken around inside a tin can.

Yeah I would imagine it's that gas station... I always fill up with 93 octane V-Power here and I've never had a problem.

Sometimes those storage tanks leak, dip sticks dirty all the time, using diesel dipstick for regular gas and in return all types of **** find its way inside so its that station!

gas stations can be independently owned/operated with the name of a major gas co and not use their gas.... ive seen this alot in CA where i live and i avoid those stations.
