NOOB: Mods for an 04 G35 C 6MT.
NOOB: Mods for an 04 G35 C 6MT.
I just picked up a 2004 G35 coupe 6MT with just under 30k on it and I'm looking to do a little moding. What are the "best bang for the buck" mods for this car? I've been poking around on the ebay and have come across several different intake manifolds and short ram intakes, which one is best? Are there any sites that you have had good buying experience with?
maintenance questions:
What oil/filter do you use?
What spark plugs do you use?
Any other general maintenance that I should keep track of?
Thanks for the help!

OIL FILTER:
Here is an interesting oil filter thread on the 350Z forums.

Sounds like Purolator Pureone or Mobil1 filters are the ones to go with.
MODS:
Stock intake is great on this car - not really worth upgrading. Go for stillen one if you really want it - see gains around 1-2 hp to the wheels at the top end. Those ebay ones are GARBAGE for the most part.
Motordyne creates a great spacer that has proven gains - about 10 hp for a $200 item. Pretty great increase for the cost. You can also see the dynos on their website (and they are actually accurate!).

Beyond this, exhaust nets a few hp. Any major gains will either require major engine work OR going with forced induction.
FINALLY, try doing a search. It can really be useful and answer all of the questions you listed.

Congrats and welcome to G35Driver.
First DONT buy from ebay...
Best bang for your buck mods:
Power: Motordyne 5/16 Spacer, z-tube, high flow cats/exhaust... you will need a tune with the mods
Best thing is to just search... look around the site and do research... there are plenty of threads answering all your questions

What about http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-K...spagenameZWDVW
I have been doing some looking around and saw that there are acouple of options for upper and lower intake manifolds. Any thoughts on this? I've been poking around and I've seen a couple of threads on them, but not really sure what one would be best for my car (2004).

The V+ has been discussed on this forum before (although I realize the negative posting is re the SSV). I didn't comment on it and simply suggested he search. I already gave a reasonable answer to his original question, and was now suggesting instead of just posting up stuff he finds on ebay for us all to comment on, he do a little search and research these things before posting.
The Z tube and POP Charger combo is a good option intake wise.
A plenum spacer is a good mod that is pretty easy to install, we have ours on sale right now for $162.
A better flowing exhaust is always a good upgrade, we've used the APS true dual & HKS systems, but if you're planning on staying N/A the Nismo is a great option as well.
High flow cats, or test pipes if you don't require emissions testing is another good mod.
One of the most significant gains you can get comes from a lightweight flywheel & clutch combo, which frees up power by reducing rotating weight off of the crankshaft.

In any event, thank you all for the help here. This is one of the first forums that I've ever posted to, and really appreciate that input that you all have given. I'll try to make better use of the search function before I create subsequent threads.

I've seen a couple of companies that make headers for this motor, but those are something that I've only see solid gains with on my LS1. Any thoughts? Finally, are you saying that a high-flow cat would cause my car to fail its inspection? I live in Austin, Texas and they do require an annual inspection, but I thought that I would still be able to pass with the high-flow cat....
