Re: Navigation Questions
If you're willing to do custom work, you can always get an aftermarket system with a touchscreen. I'm looking into the carputer idea now, I would get a 7" touchscreen, and you can also do mp3, dvd, internet.
Re: Navigation Questions
Didn't think I would care, but I got it anyway. Now I love it, especially the birds eye view graphics.
You could go with an aftermarket unit but it will not be tied into the car. The factory nav also gives many other features like trip info, mileage info, service info, basic info like "door ajar", etc. One other pretty neat feature when you run VERY LOW on fuel(like 10 miles to empty), the NAV will automatically ask you to find the nearest gas stations. Pretty neat stuff that aftermarket will not do.

Re: Navigation Questions
This is perhaps the most mportant point not made: the NAV screen is not a touchscreen. Acura's that are touchscreen are very nice (but not 3d). Having said this, I am still very glad that I have the NAV. It has saved me many times. The only other bad thing in addition to people always trying to touch it(!) is that it makes me dependent on GPS. When I try to drive a car around that doesn't have it I feel navigation-ally challenged!

Re: Navigation Questions
Don't you hate it when people try to touch your screen and get finger prints on it??!! My new pet peeve! *grin* =|
I've gotten the "Low Fuel" indicator on my NAV, but never "VERY LOW" yet... maybe I'll have to drive it till it's close to running on fumes like G35vette...just to see the indicator... =)

Re: Navigation Questions
I'm too scared that I'll decide to punch it with only a minute amount of gas left, and therefore slosh the tank. But all this talk of navigation features linked with the car makes me regret not getting it. =\

Re: Navigation Questions
If you're really fancy you can hook the carputer up to the OBD II, then you can get info like 1/4 mile times from that.
Re: Navigation Questions
Get it. It adds fantastic class to the G. Passengers freak out when they see the Birdview angle, and freak out again when the car starts telling you exactly where to turn.
Think of a car without a CD player today -- it's junk. Likewise, in five years a car without Navi (especially a luxury car) may as well be a Pinto wagon.

Hey guys, I didn't realize until now that the G's Navigation system had mileage, trip info and maintenance...etc info available as well. Obviously this thread is a little out-dated, so I was wondering if someone could say whether this has changed with the new models and what other non-Nav options are available in the Navigation.
Thanks
Thanks
The navi is great, but it always hiccups and throws a fit when I try to navigate around the 3-d map w/ the joystick. A wierd "spot" appeared on my screen recently too. Dunno if a pixel went out or what, I wonder if the LCD screen is covered under warranty?
without a doubt the navi is worth extra $2K. I notice our pop up navi screen draws alot of attention on the road and make our G look very luxurious. I never thought I would ever need a navi but ever since I own it, I use it almost everyday for business purpose.

) Also shows your average altitude above sea level. I havent seen it in person but it was reported that the nav also shows the reason for some check engine light codes in plain english. Hmm thats all I can remember off the top of my head.
yeah, i got my 06 with the navigation. Everytime I turn on the car, it pops up. The only thing annoying is that i have to press OK on the nav everytime it pops up when I turn on my car, some kind of warning, never read the whole thing. lol. I rarely use it, but it is mostly for looks. Its good for going and finding new places you have not gone to and also the ladies love it. And yeah, i hate it when they touch my screen too, when i tell them its not touch screen. Its cool, i still have the plastic sticker over it
