Car accident dilemma
Car accident dilemma
Long story short, I was about to purchase a bmw 335i when I came to find out my car was in a pretty major accident. I bought the car the end of May in 06, was an 03 with 20k miles on it, pretty much mint. A few different dealers showed me car faxes of an accident in 03 pretty much right after it was leased by the original owner. When I bought the car from the dealer, I was with my father (Whos a big paperwork junky, and double checks everything 5 times) I was sold the car with a clean title, told no accidents, no nothing. I wouldn't of even touched it if I knew it was in an accident. They even showed me how the driver side door and rear quarter was repainted (Tape lines etc)
So what should I do?
I have 2 friends that are services writers at the dealer, they told me to go in and talk to someone, and to see what they'll do for me and involve laywers if I must. (Which I won't because its not worth the time, money, and effort)
The reason I'm mad, is because the dealerships are only willing to give me 11-12k for my car, when they all said if it wasn't in an accident it'd be 17-18, big difference.
Edit: The car fax states: "Vehicle involved in accident, It hit another motor vehicle, primarily under body damaged, car was towed"

Looked like you and ur dad got hustled. Show them the paper worked when u original bought the car and where it said that the car never been in an accident. Thats IF you and ur dad were smart enough to ask for that in writing. 1+ shoulda check carfax for any used vehicle. I am still laughing at a 22 year old driving a 335i around campus though. Good luck with that car too.
I know for a fact we saw the car fax, I'm not an idiot. I need to look through the paper work to see if I have it or not. But the thing I forgot to mentioned was that the car fax mentions the accident was added to car fax or whatever in the very beginning of may (the 5th to be exact.) But also states I purchased the car on the 22nd (I signed on that day, so they maybe had a clean car fax to show us.) Still a bit shady.
And whats wrong with a 22 year old driving a 335i around campus? Did I miss something?

When I was in U, I drove an '87 Chev Sprint. Remember these? Real panty magnets I tell you.
Of course, I paid my own way through school so I didn't have a lot of income to buy a nice car.
It's just a fact that when someone sees a young person (guy or gal) in a fancy car, the first thing they think is that someone has parents with deep pockets.

This is a great case of buyer beware. Carfax is worthless in the first place but you should always run it yourself. That way you know its current or at least look at the date it was run. Dealers run a report when they first get the car. Some of those cars can be on the lot for up to 60-90 days. Thats a lot of time for things to show up. Since the dealer pointed out previous work they are pretty much in the clear. Its not like they were trying to hide the damage if they took the time to show you.
If you have a copy of the report with your paperwork on the car then you may be able to use the carfax guarantee. Most likely not worth the time though.

Of course we looked at it, and it was clean, theres a possibility like stated above that they may of had an older car fax on it. Was just looking for opinions, basically got nothing, lol
