Am I the only one that hates the power seat controls?

Hey all,

So - I've got a 2003 5AT Sedan, and I love it.

But, I HATE the power seat control. It digs into my thigh / hip and is a constant source of annoyance. I'm 6'4" - roughly 200lbs. I'm not a hugely wide dude or anything, so it doesn't make a lot of sense. WTF?

I've heard it's possible to re-locate the controls? Alternatively I would honestly prefer having a manual seat instead of a power seat.

Suggestions?

Thanks guys!

On my coupe the controls are in the seat, under the driver's right thigh. I don't like the location either. They don't bother me when I'm driving but they're not convenient if you want to make an adjustment.

lower seat

on the g37 they moved it to the left side - it makes for a better location - i saw a thread somewhere on lowering the seat an extra inch - you might want to search for it and see if it works for you

A lot of us had the same problem.

inTgr8r solved the problem when he had his 04 sedan a couple years ago. He relocated them. He had a write up describing what he did, it was pretty slick.
I will try a search to see if I can find it.

Well a search found the modification that inTgr8r did.

Here you go: Relocating the seat controls by inTgr8r link

Wow, that's a pretty hectic guide. It looks way ahead of my skill set!

Is there something more brutal that could be done, like swapping out the seat?

Is there such a thing as a manual leather seat, or would I have to install a cloth seat to loose the seat controls?

Will the seats from the newer models work better?

Could I simply install an aftermarket seat?

We were all impressed with your project Ian.

I bet 35Bills still has the smile on his face since he now has part of that project.

I haven't had a problem at all with the placement... Why is it bothering folk?

This a LOOOONG standing issue since day one.
There are many old threads on the topic.

It does seem somewhat hit & miss though depending on the individual.

I'm in the process of calling around with auto interior shops. One guy was very apprehensive about doing anything. Will keep trying...

Anyone know a good custom shop that could handle the task of removing those controls in New Jersey?
