Chop top G35

Just tinkering around with the idea of lowering the roof of my g35 coupe about 3-4 inches to give it a sportier look and lower center of gravity. Dont know if this has been done before, especially considering chasis rigidity and things. I've already talked to lexan windows and they said they could custom make polycarbonate glass all around, saves a good amount of weight but makes the car unstreetable. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone knew any custom auto body shops that could do something like this in houston.

it can be done but it needs a highly experienced person to do the job, there is a lot of work with keeping the integrity of the car.

Yup. But those cars are on a frame and not an unibody construction like the G.

I agree...too much headroom. Seats like an SUV too. The actual seat is high off the floor.

the unibody construction is what really gets you into trouble. i know it'll be expensive but i want my own one of a kind car. if anyone knows someone in houston, or nearby that can handle a project like this, please let me know. i'm gonna check out a few hot rod body shops tomorrow. the headroom is a bit much. i got the idea looking at the new corvette coupe with a removable top. i may be aiming for something similar.

sounds cool... but would it perhaps compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle?

The problem is not as much as "chopping", but you have to widen the roof width to accomodate the lowering process. This would also require you to modify the sunroof, because it would have to be widened as well.....

well i dont know about how many shops in my area would be willing to do something like this, but i was wondering if someone like seibon would make a carbonfiber replacemet to go over the lowered roof structure. i shot them an email though.
