Weird Gas Gauge issue...

Has anyone else noticed that once the gas light comes on the needle on the gas gauge will drop to the bottom line eventually, then over time makes it's way BACK up a notch (sometimes causing the gas light to turn off). Seems like it's bouncing around quite a bit. Is this normal?? I don't know when to believe I really I am low on gas!!!

Anyone??

-Matt

I have noticed when I really get on it sometimes that will happen. Its like the needle is adjusting to how much gas I will have if I continue driving like that. Then if I drive calm the needle with move back up.

I have NEVER had that problem on any other vehicle of mine...I understand if it's PARKED or sitting on a hill for a long time, but just from driving hard?? Kinda "different" eh? it's weird cuz I never really know when my gas is low....It shows me the light and drops to bottom line then a few minutes later the light is gone and it moves back up two lines on the gauge...which is it?

same here! i feel like it adjusts to how you are driving, idk if its true but if im hot rodding it the gas gauge goes low, then ill start driving efficiently and it will go back up again.

Every car I've driven/owned does this. Try punching off the line and watch it drop, then get on the brakes hard and watch it go back up.

floater

this phenomenon that everyone is talking about is cuz theres a floater gauge in your gas tank also know as the sending unit....when the gas moves around whether hard driving or turning it goes up and down...all it is tho is a lil cork float that has a electric current going thro it that sends to a chip which sends to your computer....and then it says your low on gas...

on a side note if your gas gauge is ever stuck on an older car check this before replacing everything
