Gear Ratios for the AT

Is anyone else annoyed by the gear ratios?

I'm not sure if this is the best forum. Would it be possible to change the gear ratios on my car? They are like this at the moment:

1st 3.540
2nd 2.264
3rd 1.471
4th 1.000
5th 0.834
6th -
Reverse 2.370

I know it doesn't look like it, but the difference between the 4th and 5th gears feels almost negligible when shifting. Would it be possible to make the 5th gear have a ratio of 0.7 or lower? It definitely takes a lot of fun out of shifting when the 4th and 5th gears are so close.

Automatic transmissions run on nested planetary gear sets, which makes it next to impossible to change the ratios in my experience. There may be something I don't know about, but I don't think that's gonna happen. MT ratios can be changed, but the ratios are tuned for the specific engine, car, and sometimes track. Unless you want to do a MT swap and then ask a race shop to do a tranny rebuild with custom gear sets, it ain't gonna happen. We're talking thousands and thousands of dollars. A little much to spend on one annoying shift. The 5th gear is tuned for optimum cruising economy anyways, I wouldn't mess with it.
