The loss of 5 hp will seem negligible in the eyes of those who appreciate the Gs for what they are, and not what they can modded into. I can guarantee you that 70% of the G convertible drivers won't give a hoot about ETs and top speed. Statistics show that more than 55% of luxury convertible buyers are women in their early 40s on, many of whom are either professionals, well into their careers, and/ or have raised families with grown children.
Chicago is the second largest market in the U.S. for Volvo convertibles. Obviously consumers aren't buying these cars in Chicago for utility. Luxury convertibles and coupes are marketed as being distinctive yet elegant. They are about consumers desiring that extra panache and elegance to reward themselves for many years of hard work or for having achieved some pinnacle in their life.
That's how I remember the G coupe being marketed way back in 2003 when I bought mine new.
