Question Do the japanese get locked in their trunks alot?

Seriously what is the obsession with trunk escape latches? There are 3 of them in my car. The regular trunk mounted one to release the back seat to fold down, the trunk lid one to pop the trunk from the inside, and a 3rd hidden one you find it you lift up the carpet at the back of the trunk at the base of the back seat. That one is especially stealthy buried deep with a red fabric pull loop.

What gives?

The backseats fold down for added storage space, not so people can escape...

Are the "escape" latches bothering you? I'd rather have them there than not.

if all cars had them, no one would ever get locked in a trunk again. sounds ok to me.

But that's really bad when you need to stuff someone in your trunk...

There was a thread about one kid swapping trunks to get the 05 spoiler, and he forgot to connect something and couldn't open his trunk electronically. Luckily he found the red thing, so I'm happy it's there if anything like that ever happens to me.

Yes, the escape latches bother me quite a bit Calvin! I was ferrying three illegal immigrants across the border last weekend and they kept pulling on the latches. I'm talking to a border guard and the jackelope in my trunk keeps folding down my seat and poppin' the trunk!!!

...and don't even get me started on the guy I stuffed in there over some gambling debts last february...

Really? Then why the hidden one under the carpet with the red loop?

No they are not. Just curious and found it odd. Go roll your eyes elsewhere.

BTW, do you really think Japanese cars are the only cars with escape latches? And I guess I'm failing to understand why it would be odd to have escape latches, especially multiple ones. It's not difficult for people to disable to most obvious ones.

Chris - let's super glue your rear seats closed and disable the all the escape latches. in fact, let's remove them all together. it'll be a weight saving mod.

It's there because you should be able to fit more than one Japanese person in your trunk...

This is a rather unusual topic to get butthurt about. I was asking why it needed 3. Is it because i singled out japanese? Somebody lock you in the trunk at some point?

I apologize if I hit on a sensitive area. No offense intended.

See my post relating to the defectively designed trunk wiring loom and getting locked out of the trunk of the G35 coupe. Climbing into the trunk, on my back, while wearing a dress suit, to pull the emergency release was the only way to retrieve my brief case to go to work (as a trial lawyer).

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...ml#post3656398

Nissan could have offered a key actuated mechanical trunk release as a supplement to the electrical actuator.

Like BMW does.

Calvin's not Japanese so I doubt he's offended. But if its got 3 latches its got 3 latches simple. If it bothers you take it off.

They're required by law, after a girl died from being locked in the trunk of a car.
