Is the extra HP worth it?

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and this car. The last few months I have been researching extensively about this car because I believe I am going to be purchasing one soon here. I know the 05s and up have about 18 more horsepower and I was just wondering if you guys think this is worth the extra couple thousand dollars to buy. What I mean is that I've found a couple appealing G35s (03 and 04s) for around 14 or 15k and I've found some 05s in the 17-18 range. What do you guys think, would it be worth it to spend an extra couple thousand and get the extra HP and other features as well?

You will only get the extra hp if you get the 6MT, but there is a lose in tq so the the 298hp/260tq pretty much evens out with the 280hp/270tq G's

i say go for the 05

I would buy the 05 simply for the new interior and the fact that you get IMO the best looking OEM rims by far(Plus they are lightweight, forged, and made by Rays).

Unless your intent is to race and use it purely for the power, stick with the 05, then take the difference in cost and mod it to suit your tastes.

you cant realy feel the power differance from the 03 to 05 but if you race one head to head the 05 beats it as if it had a completly diffrent motor....

But by buying the 03 you save alot of money, and you can just add some coupe 19s and lower it a bit and your all set..

maybe paint the bottom molding body color to...

Yea I'm pretty sure the 05 has hp at redline, but the 03-04 has more hp throughout the band. It has something to do with the plenums, but either way it is fixable with a spacer or MREV2 to get them both equal.

If you have a low budget (15k) get a 03-04. Higher budget(20k) get an 05-06 with about 30k, so if you have the OC issue, you can get it fixed under warranty(6 years/ 70,000 miles) I could never get an 03-04 because the small things would drive me ****ing insane, the fact that I cant have newer gauges or my trim was plastic instead of real. But that's just me.

Yeah the OC issue that I've been reading about does kinda scare me. Can you get this fixed if you just buy a regular 05 that's not under warranty any more? Do those warranties transfer between owners? Well thanks for all your input guys, appreciate it.

It's not really a big deal, and yes warranties do transfer. You can get it fixed under warranty if you have the dealer do an OC test and they find you have it. G35's have a long powertrain warranty (6 yrs/ 70,000 miles). If you are out of warranty, you can get if fixed for probably as much as the car is worth.

I just bought an 04 G35 Coupe, Brembo brake edition. This car is sweet! I also thought about getting a newer year, but 04 was the last year for the Brembo option, and let me just say, they look sweet on black. The rims are 18s and it really looks pretty good. As far as power goes, the newer editions do have more horsepower, and additional standard interior modifications. You might as well buy a G37 with 330HP. One thing to keep in mind when buying newer vehicles is sometimes aftermarket manufacturers can't keep up with demand and haven't updated the vast variety of aftermarket parts like lets say the 03-04 models. Just a thought.

04 G35 Brembos, Tint, JWT Pop-Charger, Exhaust.

the right bolt ons will make that power up. if you decide to upgrade the brakes with a bbk then you will spend 3 grand no need if you already have the brembos i say get an 04 6mt and save the rest to mod shop smart and you could get a turbo off here from some one for about 3500 then the 18 hp would be a mute point
