Angry Problem replacing tires.

Hi

I have 03' Infiniti G35 Sedan. My stock tire size is 215/55/17.

I bought Michellins sport A/S from tirerack (advice from a buddy on this forum) The size is 235/50/17.

All is fine, but when I took the car for tire mounting , many guys out there(walmart), didn,t agree to mount them, since they are not recommend by the dealer.

So, I went to carx auto services and they did mount them and complained that, it just didn't clear enough and put my old ones back.
Now I am not sure, what to do. Will tirerack accept these tirses back?

Please advice.

Thank you.

Unlikely, but I put your tire sizes into the tire computer here:http://www.wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp

came up with this:

Wheels: Wheel 1 Wheel 2
Wheel size 17x7 ET 40 17x7 ET 40
BackSpace 141 mm (5.6'') 141 mm (5.6'')
Tires: Tire 1 Tire 2
Tire size 215/55-17 235/50-17
Section width 215 mm (8.5'') 235 mm (9.3'')
Sidewall 118 mm (4.6'') 118 mm (4.6'')
Tire diameter 668 mm (26.3'') 668 mm (26.3'')
Rim sizes 17x6 to 17x8 17x6.5 to 17x9
Circumference 2098 mm (82.6'') 2098 mm (82.6'')
Revs per mile 767.3 767.3
Clearance: Package 1
Suspension Assuming that this is OEM wheel/tire and there is no any problems with clearance on both sides

Package 2

Package is 10 mm (0.4'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars. Fenders Package will stick out 10 mm (0.4'') farther. Acceptable for most cars. Wheelwells The same.

Assuming you have 7" or 7.5" rims there is NO REASON for those tires not to fit. Go to the website and try it yourself. They are the EXACT same diameter.

They don't know what they are talking about.

Did they actually mount the tires? Did they drive it? My originals were 235 45 18 and now I'm running 245 40 19, they are the exact same diameter, the are wider but there is no clearance problems.

Anyone know the offset and width on stock 17's?

They did mount of it and visually checked. They did not drive it.

What they did, mounted , one new tire and compared it with the stock size thats on it. he placed his finger between the wheel and the axle( I dont know what exactly it is) and said there is very less clearance and it is not recommended.

Unless you have the tire sizes wrong, they should fit. The new ones should be exactly the same height as the OEM tires.

The sizes I mentioned are correct.

Stock : 215/55/17

new tires : 235/50/17

He is not complaining abt the height, but the width.

OK, I went to Discount Tire 's website and put in your car and selected 17" wheels. the two OPTIONAL tire sizes for that car are:

Plus Zero
225/55-17
245/50-17

So you can get even FATTER tires than the ones you have on there.

Call Tire rack and ask for one of there "Authorized" installers in your area.

Go somewhere else. You can actually go even higher than 235 on a 7" rim if you want.

Discount will not install spacers. They will not put tires on a car with spacers. You will need to do that yourself. IF YOU NEED THEM. I don't thing you will. I had to put 5mm spacers on my sedan when I put the M-45 sport wheels on, just the front though. I had to get the extended studs too. I only had 6 turns on the lug nuts vs 10 with the stockers. I still think you will be OK. Even with the 5mm spaceers my front tires only cleared the A arm connector by 5-6mm and I had no trouble wearing out that set.

well if u have spacers than maybe they have clearing issues, i don't know why you'd put those spacers on i assume u have the 5 spoke sport 6mt rims right? i just had the exact same tire & size put on my G and i don't have any problems, they stick out a little too much already if u ask me without the spacers, so if u got the 5 spoke sport rims take those fvcking spacers out and it'll be fine, haven't u heard of wheels coming off because of spacers?

It's 20mm, which is 3/4" basically.

The wheel diameter is the same, it just basically comes down to the shop wanting to mount the tire.

Solution? Take the wheels off the car and bring them the wheels ONLY and the tires and tell them to put them on. Then take them home and mount them up yourself.

235's will fit fine on a 7" rim. Now if your car is slammed it might come close to the fender lip but i assume you won;t have this problem.

I've seen 315's mounted on an 8" rim before

{EDIT: This was done as a joke...the guy didn't really intend to drive around like this)
