+1...swap places with the cheapest car and pay the difference if your parents ask for it since they'll be taking the hit.

but at those rates, i'd say **** you to the insurance companies and ride my bike lol

Call some of the insurance brokers around your area that represent multiple companies. I was with State Farm until recently when I decided to do some checking and ended up saving about $500/year by going with a smaller company that I never would have heard about if I didn't call around. I pay $54/mo for 100/300 coverage. At your age and with the car you are driving it will be just about impossible to find a decent rate without your parents having to switch their cars and home as well because the multi-car and multi-line discounts are necessary to get any kind of good rate.

Actually, if you are in SoCal, you should call me. I AM an independent insurance agent in SoCal.

This is why I drove a 93 Hyundai Excel when I was a teenager. There is only so much trouble you can get into with an 81 hp engine (max speed 145 km/h or 90 mp/h), so insurance was cheap.

As a bonus, I could drive around for an entire day and the gas gauge wouldn't drop at all.

+1 you will pay more if your are a male under age 25. Also will need to factor in if this is your first insured car or not, you will also pay for the first 6-months as a "high risk" driver too.

When I was 18 I was going to buy a 89 corvett, like 10 years ago. I tried to do the same thing and go on my dads insurance, but they said it would put the whole policy at high risk. Insurance by myself was 550 a month. I had some tickets and maybe a accident. The insurance was going to be more then the car payment so, I bought a different car. The insurance on a g coupe is high. I paid 70 month full coverage for my tahoe z71, traded it in got the g and it went up almost 100 a month. At your age if you are not rich you should get a different car.

Damn, I had a busy a$$ day at the office today. All I can say to everyone is NEVER get a DUI unless you wanna really screw yourself with insurance (especially in Cali).
