How many of you have had your gas tank replaced?

Mine's at the dealer right now getting the gas tank replaced. 48k miles on the car.

Timeline:
2 months ago - Car will randomly refuse to take a full tank of gas. Pump clicks off after 5-7 gallons. Problems gets progressively worse and starts doing it on every fill up.

1 month ago - I take the car in and they install a "cut valve". Fill problem goes away for about a month and then comes back.

Today - Just got a call that one side of the tank is full (this is a saddle style tank) and one is empty. They assume that the tubes connecting the saddles are clogged.

I'm hoping this fixes it. Dealer says they've seen this a fair amount on the FX35, but this is the first time on a G.

It's been a great car aside from this annoying issue. Loaner is an 08 G35 Sedan. Wow, that VQHR is a BEAST.

Wow, that sucks. Never heard of gas tank issues with these.

I had some engine warranty issues, and my loaner was an 08 sedan. Fun car to drive, honestly.

There were issues with '03 & '04 coupes not accepting gas. There was a service bulletin on this. Something to do with the filler tube from the side of the car to the tank. From what I remember they have to drop the tank to replace it, but in order to do that, they have to drop the rear axle. It was quite a job, I hope you are covered by warranty.

mine does this too occassionaly. I have 57 thousand miles on mine. I didnt purchase an extended warranty. Is this still covered by the stock warranty? and what would i tell the mechanic it is that needs to be replaced?

This happened on my old 350z every time i went to the pump, but I got rid of the 350

What year is your car?

Mine is an '06 that was purchased in Feb of 2006. So, the bumper to bumper warranty goes until Feb of 2010 (4 years) or 60,000 miles (I currently have 48,000). The determined that was the tank because after the pump shut off, they somehow checked both sides of the tank and found that one side was full (I'm assuming it's the side with the filler neck) and one was empty.

They said this is not common at all on the G. If you've had the TSB done for this already (I had it done a month ago) and the problem is still there, then maybe it's your tank.

Update: They replaced the gas tank and that didn't fix it. They are onto the charcoal canister. Apparently, that might be full/plugged. Treatment so far has been top notch.

There is definitely a TSB for this issue. I had to have the fuel sending unit (or something like that inside the fuel tank) replaced. They did not have to replace the entire fuel tank.
My issue was that it would not fill up properly and would progressively get worse (more noticeable) the longer I let the fuel gage sit on "E". The TSB fixed it for the most part. Occasionally, it will get a little tempermental, and I have to baby the last couple of gallons into her.

this is a well known problem... i had this fixed twice when i had my car. it's most likely the stupid flapper in the filler neck that is messed up. tell them to look-up tsb# ITB08-041a.
