What is Teflon Tape?????

I'm in the process of replacing my wrecked G Coupe and I came across a pretty good deal. The only thing is when I looked at the pics, it looked like a scratch right ahead of the rear driver side tire. When I inquired, the dealer said it was Teflon Tape or something like that. It's supposed to act like rock/mud flaps. I've never seen this and it wasn't on mine when I got it. The car is a 2005, Blk/Blk. Im attaching a pic so you guys can see it. The Teflon Tape is on both sides of the vehicle.

Anyone ever seen something like this????

teflon tape is used to seal out water or to seal in water...generally used on pipes or things that need to be screw'd in....u take the tape and wrap it around the threads and then screw it in......it works like an o ring or groment.... i dont know why it would be on the exterior of the car sounds like b.s but i could be wrong

That looks like wax buildup from a LONG time ago (guessing the car hasn't been waxed in a while by the looks of it).

There is no reason why teflon tape would be on any exterior piece of the car. The "tape" you are referring to is a paint guard, it's a clear piece that...to my knowledge...is on all or most G's. Well, it's on yours and mine at least! Kind of like a "Clear-Bra" people put on the front of their cars.

That's not Teflon tape. It's like a clear bra to protect against rock chips since the fenders flare out. I'm pretty sure all of the G Coupes have them, mine does. From the pictures that G is going to need some serious attention to get it looking decent. Did they use Brillo pads to wash it?

I have it on my car. And like everyone said, it's a protective film to prevent rock chips and such.

okay, I have an inspector going to look at it tomorrow. I'm actually looking at like 5 other G's too. I know the paint looks swirly, but I think a good detail could get it back. What do ya'll think????

Also, has anyone ever taken this bra off???? Was it easy to do? Did it leave marring? Should only a professional do it? I didn't have this on my G, but I had an '04 and this is an '05.

It comes off with a heat gun. Some easier than others.

You don't want to take it off, just get your fingernails in there and clean out the wax/residue.
