I have a lock washer accidently dropped into the defrost vent under the windshield. Now on and off I can hear the nut rolling and bouncing in the dash when driving. Any recommendation on how to get it out?

Ya just get haywire and tie a magnet on it fish the nut out..lol good luck..

 

I thought the washer got stuck somewhere but last night when I was driving around NYC it was obvious the washer is moving left and right somewhere in the dash. Drove my wife and I craze with the music down.

Maybe I get a small donut magnet and fish wire to try my luck.

Not that it matters, but is it a lock washer or a nut?

Promise us you'll tie a string to the magnet before you drop it in there. Seriously, I think that's your best bet. Oh, and about the string, make it really long and actually tie the other end to something in the car so you won't loose it. Then, just drive around with the magnet in the same place as the washer/nut for a while and see if they meet. Can you get your hands on a small/strong neodymium magnet? Something about the size of the washer/nut would be your best bet. Make sure the string is on there good, because if the magnet comes in contact with body metal it might stay in there!

Get a small "super magnet" from Rite Aid or ???. They're cheap and pretty strong magnet. Tie a fishing line to a small washer. Put the magnet on the washer and feed it down where your washer fell. Hopefully you can get close and pick it up. Even if you loose your magnet down there, the loose washer will (someday) stick to it and find some other metal to attach to... hence, no more rattle anyway.

 

It's in the same place where I lose my one sock when i'm drying my clothes.
