Hypermiling
Hypermiling
So any of you guys try it before?
I done it on my parents Audi Q7 V6 3.6L on a 18mile trip with 3 to 4 miles on streets rest highway I got 24mpg from 18mpg(spirited driving)
I am going to try it once I get my G which I hope is very soon
today for that matter.
Let me tell you people in the HOV lane don't like you, nor people on any lanes lol.
I used cruise control to accelerate ( uber slow acceleration lol)
Coasted instead of breaking, but used the break if I had to. (leave enough following distance)
I am sure there other things also.. but I did not do em :O

Depends what you mean by 'hypermiling'. Some people overinflate their tires, draft semis and coast with the engine off. Marginal behaviour at best, dangerous at worst.
I tend to look well ahead, anticipate lights to avoid unnecessary braking , use the cruise and don't overbrake for corners. I like to call it 'driving well'.

I've seen people take it to the extreme. SOme will even turn their headlights off at night in deserted areas to lessen the load on the alt.
Personally, i just drive easy. I can afford gas.

There's no way you can get an accurate mpg reading on such a short trip. There are far too many variables in play. You need an extremely precise measurement of the amount of gas you used which you can't get by filling up the tank, driving 18 miles, then refilling it (I hope you're not using the vehicle's mpg calculations). You could do the exact same thing tomorrow and get 16mpg. Tire pressure, barometric pressure, temperature, wind speed and direction, elevation changes, air turbulence from other vehicles, type of fuel, automatic shutoff at each gas station, etc. all come into play, especially on such a short trip. Over the course of several full tanks worth of testing such things even out, but for a 25 minute drive they could be huge factors in your mpg rating. Hypermiling can certainly affect the numbers, but without controlling for these other factors there's no way to know. Besides, it takes all the fun out of driving so you can save maybe $15 a month.
