Recalled 06-07 Lights

A dealer round here has a set of used recalled lights for $400.

Are they really that dangerous? and is $400 steep for used lights?

I know riverside has the good ones new for $525 but I have $400.

Should I talk them down or just wait until I have $525?

please report that dealership to infiniti. Are you really willing to give someone $400 in pure profit so you can get a set of used headlights which may have alignment issues which can't be fixed?

I'm not gonna buy them. I am gonna report the dealer. I already talked to corporate about the recall but didn't mention the potential purchase.

The only reason I even thought about buying them is because a detail shop ruined my lenses that are on the car and initially wouldn't pay to replace them. I mentioned legal stuff and now they're cutting me a check for brand new lights. Funny thing is that the dealer gave the detail the highest mark-up price for the lights. Now I'll have enough for two brand new sets!

So should I report the dealer? Or ignore the issue since they're making me money

Who made you the offer?

Did some tech take you aside and offer it? Or did you go into parts and one of the guys told you he could get you a set for cheap "on the DL"??

Reporting the dealer all depends on how the offer for these headlights was made in my opinion

It was the service advisor that mentioned said lights on the DL. He's a good guy and he's just trying to help me out. I've dealt with him on warranty issues and have been taken care of very well.

I want to do the right thing but I don't want to burn any bridges.

I'd let it go. A guy made a mistake, not the dealership. In this rough economy i wouldn't want to cost him his job.

You made out in the end and you might need to see him again in the future.

While the guy at the dealer was wrong to offer the lights, you will be back there in the future for something and unless he gets fired it will be an issue. Tough call.
On a side note, how do I know if my 07 coupe has the faulty lights?

People will keep flashing their brights at you on the highway at night because it appears your brights are on (even though you do have low-beams on) due to the high cut-line blinding oncoming traffic.

After I got the new lights I noticed reduced illuminated distance at night with low-beams, same distance with high-beams, but nobody flashes their brights at me.

Pick your preference when deciding on the recall....less low-beam illumination at night or blinding oncoming drivers and increasing your risk of causing an accident. Both have their pros and cons.

I agree, leave him be.
