In loving memory....
I'm 6'2" so I sit pretty far back. so, by the time I hit the airbag, it was already fully deployed. So, I felt more of the downside of the impact.
I think people how sit closer to the steering wheel and shorter people are more likely to get hurt from airbags.

I wanted a Certified, so I'm glad I went the auction route through an Infiniti dealer. They went to an Infiniti-only auction where the cars were either immaculate trade-ins or cars coming off a lease. Infiniti guaranteed they'd pass the certification process. It was pretty straight forward. My salesman called me a few days before the auction (held about 3 times a month) with a list of cars that would be available at the next auction that fit the basic criteria I'd given him (year, model, mileage, options, etc.). I then told him what the top dollar I'd be willing to pay for each of them was, and he then told his auction buyer what the dealer's top purchase price was (they needed to make some money on it). They come up in sequence (obviously), so if I really wanted car #2 from the list he gave me, then I had to either tell him no on the first car or give them a very low price for it, which basically meant I would take car #1 but only if I practically stole it.
I ended up getting the car I wanted which was car #2 on the list. Car #1 had more miles but it had Navi, which added alot to it's value. But it wasn't worth it to me, so I low-balled it and it sold for more than the dealer was willing to buy it for. The prices I gave were pretty low for all the cars, but I knew what they were worth going in, and I knew dealerships were struggling. I ended up paying about $1000 below NADA Guides Average Trade-In price and basically got exactly what I wanted. Whenever I get rid of this car many years from now, I'm more than likely getting a new one from an auction.
Oh, not to minimize it by mentioning it last, but I'm glad you're OK. It sucks losing a car you really liked, but it is nice knowing you're getting a newer one. Good luck.

One thing i do have to add is that, infiniti's safety is awesome. I should've been dead right now, if it wasnt for the glorious safety features that infiniti vehicles have.
I was a passenger in a 03 m45 sedan that was traveling at a rate of speed of 101mph on a city street about 2 and a half years back. I was sitting in the back passenger seat drunk and completly out of it. I didnt realize that the driver was almost as intoxicated as i was. So all i remember was us traveling real fast on a completely empty street, when out of no where a car appeared about 1/8 of a mile ahead coming toward us on the opposite side. As we screamed thru, the driver of the car coming toward us, decides to make a left on the intersection as we were about to cross it, so the driver of the car i was in, swerved to the left to avoid a head on collision swerving onto the opposite side of the road and then swerving back to the right, and by this time were just fishtailing like crazy. Eventually we ended up slamming onto a street light sideways, ripping it completely off the concrete and the m45 finally halted when it hit a telephone pole head on. I was extremely blown away at the fact that it did not split into 2, and non of us got seriously injured!
. What is more unbelievable is that the driver wasnt even wearing a seat belt, and walked away with some minor cuts!!!!! Thank goodness for the side curtain airbags. Me on the other hand, i coulden't walk for like 2 days sore as a motha but ok, i think. NEVER GET ON A CAR WHEN THE DRIVER IS INTOXICATED, TRUST ME.
