Quick Start-up Question

I’ve got a quick question that has probably been discussed before, but I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted when I was searching through countless threads. Whenever I start my car after not driving for awhile (cold engine), even if it’s 70 or so degrees ambient temperature, the engine idles close to 2000 RPMs. It drops fairly fast and soon idles at 1500 RPMs, 1000 RPMs, etc. and then after a few minutes of driving it gets to the normal ~650 RPMs. I just got the car and haven’t driven in any real cold weather yet. My question is simply, is the initial high idling (~2000RPMs or just below) normal? Thanks for any help. Car is a 2006 coupe, 6MT.

It is normal for the cars that i've driven. I think is is how the ecu is programmed from the factory. Any mechanics out there that can verify this?

It's absolutely normal. I'm not a mechanic, but it has to do with getting the engine up to operating temperature sooner, especially warming the catalytic converter. I've had a broken idle speed controller, and the engine definitely runs more roughly at warm idle speed when it's cold. Two good reasons for the higher idle.

Very normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like it's pretty normal, so that's good to hear. Guess I still just have to get used to my G, haha.
