hmmm No, K&N filter will not build up oil on your sensor for the first time. But after you use your cleaner kit and re-oil the filter, it might cause the problem.

Why dont you go for Amsoil air filter. Much better and Cheaper.

apparently they pass so much dirt that the inside of the intercooler pipes were sand blasted to a chrome finish which ate up the turbos...

What's ridiculous is this is the kind of internet story blazeplacid was talking about. "I have heard", "apparently". Do you have any proof of this overhyped damage? And I don't mean some nobody saying something to someone else, or some service guy at a Jiffy Lube, I mean an actual Ford announcement or notice or bulletin of some kind that supports either of your claims? That it voids the warranty or that it sand blasted the pipes to a chrome finish?

Yeah...I have a hard time believing that the extra dirt a K&N flows through will actually sand blast the finish.

Seems a lot of these stories are going around.

Here's K&N's response:

I talked my dad out of the K&N on his G37S. He's planning on keeping the car long term, it's a car he just drives to work, and it's an automatic.

A car like that won't benefit from negligible performance increases, and the engine will benefit over the long term from less crap being allowed through the stock paper filters.

My UOA's showed more silicon (dirt) allowed through on an oil/cotton compared to an Amsoil dry. I no longer use oil/cotton but that's me.

Yeah, I prefer a dry filter too, but its not a really big deal for me. I really just use the K&N (with zero issues so far) for convenience more than anything.

Like other's have said, I find it near impossible for a car to have chromed intercooler pipes b/c of all the crap that got in there.

You should be fine using it.

This is exactly why I get a new K&N filter every other oil change.

Really? Doesnt that kind of defeat the purpose of even going with a K&N?

(shrug) I dunno.

I just dont feel like cleaning it, and spending 50 bucks for one every 2 months isnt that big of a deal.

LoL, 300 bucks a year just on air filters though? LoL, seems like a waste to me. But, if I remember correctly, you do have that bomb @ss job at a law firm or something right? So, I guess its no big deal.
