So my 06 G35 does not qualify for cash for clunkers

I went to Ford website and entered my car into their website, but since the G got 19mpg, it does not qualify for the program. I swear my G got much lower mpg than that.

The cash for clunkers bill is a Joke.

First off, the voucher is a MINIMUM trade value if you go buy a new car. If your trade-in is worth more than the $4500 or so, then it's of no use to you. Go trade your car in on it's own. The voucher doesn't apply to you.

Secondly, if you are driving around a $2500 gas guzzler, there is probably a good reason for it. So if you want to take advantage of getting 4500 for your 2500 car, then perhaps you need to sit back and decide if there is a reason you are driving a 2500 car. Is 2000 all that's keeping you from a nice new $30K car?? In reality, there are probably other reasons why you are driving a POS...like working at Taco Bell or something.

Mine's not a clunker, it rocks!! All car brands have issues, Infiniti's no different.

Get a sh!tty one, sell it and try again. Wanna try a Benz or maybe a Bimmer, good luck with that. Wait until they break, and then shell out the big bucks to fix them. Hondas are cheaper and probably more reliable. Have at it if you wish. (Not aimed at you Officer, just a general statement)

Like life itself, car ownership is full of choices. I choose to own an Infiniti and I'm glad I do

I lol'ed when I saw the title of this thread.

I haven't read up on this bill, but I'm sure there is not a single person on these forums that would seriously think about using their G for this.

Even wrecked, out cars are prob worth more than the voucher would give us credit for.

All it means is if you drive a total POS car, the gov't will put in enough money so that basically your $200 K-car is now worth $4500 in trade.

If your car is worth more than that in a trade in, then this program is of no use to you. And like i said, if you are driving around in a $200 car...there is probably a reason and buying a $30K car is prob not in your best interest.

You might need to broaden what you think people will buy. Not everyone is going to trade up from a POS to a $30k car. maybe they'll buy a civic, fit, or other small car under $18k.

Also, someone might have a $2500 car because its not worth selling it-especially if it runs good and its paid for. Maybe they can buy another car but their car isnt even worth 2500. maybe its worth 1000 or less.

I have plenty of friends who will benefit from this law, and who can afford a new car anyway but had no incentive to trade up. Now they're getting free money toward a new car so its worth it. In fact, now there's a market for these POS cars where people are buying them so they can trade them up for a new car. One friend of mine was approached about his truck and found that out.

So I'm not suggesting that anyone do this, but from what I've understood from this tread, if you have a clunker worth less than $2500, the gov will take it, and give you a voucher for $4500?

Now if that is true, couldn't you go to an auto auction and buy a car for $100 bucks, then turn around, give it to the "cash for clunkers" program, and have $4400 extra towards a new car?

Again, if the gov is really doing this program, I'm not suggesting anyone try to cheat the system, nor do I think its a good idea, but would it be possible?

Maybe there is a second or third car in the family that would qualify. Trade in the old one that has been around for 10 years, maybe driven by the kid.

Or maybe the family had an old minivan that isn't needed anymore, needs a transmission, etc. And now is the time to buy a nicer car since the kids are out of the house.

In my case, I could "possibly" use it. My second car is a 97 F150. I would have to research to verify, but I suspect it is still worth more than $4500
