engines

My only concern with "built" engines is.....I have read some people spend big $$$$ from big name shops and the engines being torn down and not "built" properly and not taking responsibility when the motor blows in a few months....I want my motor to last a few years.....

With a G37 block it is strong from the factory. So if we can use g35 heads on the G37 block I have a strong OEM motor that might actually last more than a few months.....The G37 motor can handle more boost from what I read? Stronger rods? Might be worth the swap if I could get a short block cheap enough and the G35 heads bolt on to it???

what do you guys think? hope that clarifies my thought on this.....

ya def not worth it. or put in a ls1 or ls6 or ls1000000000. from every topic like this i have read, every time it has been concluded to cost way more than the price of having a quality built motor.

I think you may be referring to a story about a guy who bought a built block, had it shipped to him, then had another guy install it and install the FI. Engine blew and fingers started pointing.

If you have the money then build the engine. The G37 has stronger rods, but if you are simply swapping out rods then do a complete build. Yes, it would be cool to have the 3.7, but it isn't economically feasible at this time.....especially compared to a built motor.

what is your goal here? if you're looking to build a vq35, why not build a 3.7?

the 3.5 can take a beating.

You can also look into GTM (http://gtmotorsports.com/). They're known for boost and built engines.

i would love the G37 motor in a first gen G35. would it fit easily? the 330 horese it comes with stock, the awesome sound and a 3300lbs car vs a 3700lbs car. that would be nice!
stick to stick to make things easier.

The ammount of $ to make it all happen, you might as well invest in a nice turbo kit

just give it a few years and we'll be seeing some more realistic VQ37 swaps
so far, i haven't seen any

it seemed unreal to swap a VQ35 into any other car back in '03 but look at the situation now...as time goes by, they become cheaper & more available and you see more and more 240SX's, 240Z's, even Sentra's with VQ35 swaps

what exactly makes the swap so cost prohibitive?

If you were able to find a complete undamaged salvage engine with harness and ecu what more would be required?

I would think it is essentially the same block with the same mount points and I can't see nissan changing the trans bolt pattern.

Buying a complete new crate engine from nissan would be a different story...

We get this kind of request all the time and what we tell customers is to ask themselves, "What is my horsepower goal?" If that is the question, the VQ35 has been taken to 1000hp.
If the question is "I want something unique that makes my hp goal?" then be preparered to spend some money.
