Whats wrong with this brake rotor?

Ordered some new brembo brake rotors from Tire Rack for my g35x. There is crap all over them. Tried to clean them off with brake cleaner, but the crud seems to be on there pretty good.

Any thoughts/ideas would be helpful, as i have destroyed the old rotors trying to get them off.

Give it a soak in gasoline for an hour or two. I think it's just the perservative they put on them.

When I had my brakes on my old mustang replaced by brake check, they said they were covered in an oil so that the rotors wouldn't rust(I guess while in storage). He said for a couple of days the brakes might smoke as the oil wears off from the pads. It was funny the first day every time I braked to a stop, all you could see was alot up smoke. I had to keep the windows up.

I use brake cleaner when ever I install new rotors and wipe them down with a clean rag to remove all that oil.

What you are seeing is normal and as the others mentioned its to prevent the rotor from rusting while in storage.

i've used about two cans already, but it still isnt getting most of the caked in stuff off, should i spend more time until it is completely cleaned off, or can i just get it close and let the rest come off through driving? i could try the gasoline suggestion?

You can try gasoline.

If it's not coming off with brake cleaner just let the brake pad take the rest off while driving.

Can't you just put them on? I am sure when you brake few times it will come of in high heat.

use paint thinners to clean them if brake cleaner doesn't do it.

It would be best to clean them before putting them on the car.
Them won't bed in properly if you contaminate the pads.

You want them clean use something from my "Old School" memory bank....CARB CLEANER it will clean anything. It's available at all autoparts stores. You'll need to dispose of the rag you use carefully, it's very combustible. I just hang my used rags outside the garbage cans until it evaporates then toss 'em.... Guarantee they'll be clean!

Carburator Cleaner (Gumout) works best. After cleaning clean again with Brake Cleaner to remove any lubricants contained in the carb-cleaner.
