Depends. In my case I retired and this was my retirement car. If you just placed the money in the bank and had it pay out to a loan then it may end up as a wash as long as the interest rates on the car were low enough. In my case the money I did put into a retirement account lost nearly 50 grand the first month (remember what occurred shortly after the car was purchased in June 2008). If I had included the money I spent on the car into my account (which I can not modifiy until age 59 1/2 or 5 years which ever comes last - 72T account, in my case 5 years applies) I would have lost a substantial portion of it as well. At the time I was looking at it as a wash however it turned out to possibly have been a good decision money wise. Not only would I have lost the addition cash from the market free fall but I would also now have a sizable payment in a very tight job market.

i had the test done a back in 06/07... i was hearing a rattling noise at low rpm, under acceleration. sounded like it was coming from the tranny at first. had the test done, just in case. no consumption issue, but they said it was engine ping and normal for these cars... didnt think ping was normal, but had several techs look at it over the years and they all say it's normal and there's nothing they can do. 4 yrs and 32K w/ no problems but the sound is still there.

i don't think pinging is normal either.. but.. come to think about it.. at low rpm's with the clutch all the way out.. my car pings like i have bad gas or something.. i always put super unleaded at chevron.. i just figured it was the car cuz i know its not the gas.

your oil consumption test...? when you had it done.. did you ever check your oil..? like .. did you check to see if your oil level on the dipstick was low...? i just checked my oil for the first time since i have owned it.. lol.. it seemed really low since i only drove it less than 2k miles since my last oil change..

the more i read through the forums, the more common the pinging sound seems. i use nothing but supreme and only from the major suppliers (chevron, shell, etc), but it wont go away.

as for the oil test, once it was recognized as an issue, i checked. oil didnt seem low. when i brought it in, they changed my oil and zip tied the dip stick (so i couldnt fuss with it), and had me drive on it for about a month. i brought it back and they confirmed no significant loss ofoil.. really no loss at all. from what i hear, the consumption issue can start later in the engine's life, and since i was < 20K when i had it checked i'm hoping it's still not an issue. probably should have them look at it again, but i have a pretty good relationship with my service people and hope they would say something if they notice a problem during oil changes.

good luck with your test.

I'm loving the JWT clutch and flywheel combo. The engagement feels a lot more solid and quick, and I like the way the rev's are effected by the lowered inertia. The only downside for me is the loud chattering that comes and goes when the clutch isn't depressed.

I definitely got a good price for my car new. I found a dealer that didn't look like it was getting a lot of business at the time. Went at the end of the month when sales people are trying hard to meet quota, and found a sales guy who was nice, but not the best salesman. After I got the price pretty low, I still walked on the offer. Called back the next day and got the guy to extend the deal through the weekend, and ended up getting them to settle at $36.5 k

It was a tough decision between OB and BS, but I ended up going with silver.

My car suffered from the same problem. I had to bring it in every 1000 miles for routine inspection of the oil level. Ultimately, my dealership decided to swap out the engine, which is why I decided to get the JWT clutch and flywheel put in to save on installation costs. Good luck with your consumption tests. If your dealership is cool, you shouldn't run into any issues with getting a replacement engine if your current one is burning oil.

Who Bought Their G35 Brand New

2007 G35 MT, now with 15,900 miles (barn queen). I bought mine new $34,400. I love the car. My son has a G35 in Italy and it is a huge hit; draws more attention than a Porshe.
