2005 vs 2006 G35 Coupe Differences

Hey everyone,

I am brand new to the forums and I have been drooling over the G35 Coupes for years now. My old Eclipse is finally on its last leg and I have convinced myself that my next car WILL BE A G35 COUPE, PERIOD.

So my question, I had been looking only at 05's because I thought that was all I could afford. But I have noticed 2006 coupes for only another $1000-$1500 and with less miles.

So it got me wondering why they are so affordable, is there a reason people might want to buy an 05 over and 06? That doesnt really seem right but I figured I better ask the experts.

So can anyone list for me the advantages that would make an 06 a smarter buy, or any disadvantages that would make me want an 05 instead.

Thank you much!

If you're looking at a 6MT vs 5AT - both have the better (rev-up) engine, drivetrain differences are non-existent. 2005 tail lights look better, imo. 2006 headlights are way better. 06 interior (depending on packages) will have some perks over the 05 like bluetooth, memory seats, etc. Some color combinations depending on your area may also carry a premium. I've got an 05 and am happy with it, memory seats would be nice but the headlights can be updated to the 06 model version so no real loss there.

Last big difference you may find is the warranty period. Even though both vehicles may have similar mileage, remember that factory warranties are so many miles AND months, so you'll have a little more time, in theory, on an 06's warranty. That would probably be a deciding factor for me if I were purchasing again today.

Good luck with finding the car you want, and welcome to the forums!

I think the 2005 and prior taillights illuminates better at night than the 2006. They slightly squished the layout of the leds closer together(or it seems to be) on the 2006 tails to compensate the longer and sleeker reverse light and the trunk release button.

In the other hand, during the day...the 2006 tails looks more advance, curvy 3D-ish, and costly-looking.

The 5AT does not come with the rev up engine, only the 6MT does.
Edit: Nevermind, it looked as though you were saying that both the 6MT and 5AT had the rev-up engine~

If you can afford it, get an 06-07. Better interior, options, less miles, headlights, rear lights, warranty.

Good call, I didn't phrase that well. 5ATs = no rev-up. 05+ 6MTs = rev-up.
