Noob A/C question

I understand we don't have a "recirculate" feature on the A/C to run the fan w/o the compressor on. That being said can someone explain what exactly does the "Econ" button do?

The owner's manual is very vague. It says

" Economical operation (ECON)

Economical operation reduces some load
to the engine to improve the fuel

economy. It allows higher humidity than
normal operation.

Pushing the AUTO/ECON button changes
operations as follows while the A/C
button indicator is on. AUTO , ECON ,
AUTO"

What exactly does the car do in Econ?

That might be true for the Audi, but I don't think it applies to the G. When I'm in Econ mode the AC still blows cold in the summer which it wouldn't do if the compressor was off.

Hence my question.

That's true.. I still feel the same in my G too when the Econ button is pressed. It may put less pressure on the compressor comparative..

I would be interested in knowing that as well. Great question Blue Dream

It still works, but i beleive it just cycles the compressor on and off more frequently. The less the compressor is engaged, the less gas you use, but the a/c isn't as cool.

Unless it's 90*+...i run in ECON mode

If it's really hot out, econ and normal behave the same. If not much cooling is needed, normal mode still uses the AC to control humidity in the cabin. On cold, foggy days, my car starts to fog up a little bit and turning off econ mode clears it, especially with a couple of people in the car.

Re-circulating air w/ A/C OFF

In order to re-circulate air w/out the A/C on, dont use the (fan^) button to turn on system. Instead, use the "mode" button, and then hit the "re-circulate."

Thats how ya do it!

I accept with information:Economical operation reduces some load to the engine to improve the fuel economy. It allows higher humidity than normal operation. Pushing the AUTO/ECON button changes operations as follows while the A/C button indicator is on.
