[Updated] Please help is my engine knocking ?

http://www.4shared.com/file/15988588...a56e/Memo.html

I recorded this by holding my iPhone over the engine.
I use 93 octane gas and Oil is Mobile 1 synthetic.

Any help is appreciated.

Update: Took it to infiniti. After a day they called saying they are going to replace the engine. I get to hold on to the loaner until the new engine comes in as they decided it could be a safety issue. Right Before I took it to infiniti I did a round trip drive from washington DC to Toronto lol.

Also when the engine is cold at first it doesn't make this sound. After it warms up for a good 15 mins or I drive it enough I get this sound. This is my bro's car, it's a 2006 6mt rev up engine

come one guys someone must be able say if its a knock or not. It's a very small < 100 kbyte download for the sound file, will take about 2 minutes of your time.

Hard to tell what it is without getting an idea of where it is coming from, I haven't heard a rod knock on a VQ but the ones I have heard had a deeper more resonant sound. Sounds more like something in the top end, can you isolate where the sound is coming from? Might try using a hose like a stethoscope to locate it. Did it start after some hard driving or high revs?

I'll try to pin point the sound. From what I remember its coming from the center front section of the engine. The car only has 12k miles on it. This sound only happens when the engine is warmed up after some average driving. Initially when the engine is cold the sound is not present at all. I doubt it's a rod knock because the sound does not increase and appears to fade away on higher RPMs than idle. I'm thinking it's an ignition knock however I use 93 octane gas.

Definitely not detonation, now that I listen again I'd bet it is just a noisy injector

Does that mean they need to be cleaned out or something ? Cuz I have driven other g35s and none make that noise.

Warranty....? I you have no warranty I'd take it into your local Nissan dealership, they charge less than Infiniti. You did check the oil level? Noises are difficult to describe on line unless it's rod knock which you'd have all the time....G/L let us know what you find....

That's not knock, what's commonly called "knock" means detonation. That's not what detonation sounds like. My guess would be you've got a loose lifter on one of the valves, a bad bearing on cams or crank or maybe even a loose con-rod. If you're lucky, it's one of the things driven by the belt. Does the sound go away if you turn off A/C?

This sound could be one of a ton of things, but not knock

Oil level is on high but oil change was recent. The sound is there without AC. It's still under warranty so I'm gonna take it to the dealer let's see what they say. I know the dealer will most likely say this is normal and try to get rid of me so I posted this to actually verify that this is Not normal. So I can confidently assume that ?

Yes, it is not normal. My car makes a very slight ticking sound if you listen real close, but yours sounds very loud.

There also some clicking sound comes from my engine bay I would say 3-4 every second but you really have to listen to it. Could it be from the timing chain?

If that noise is mainly from the passenger side of engine bay, good chance it's the fuel dampener knocking/clicking. There's a TSB on that.

I still haven't had time to take it to the dealer (traveling for work). Any idea why this ticking noise happens only after the car is FULLY (by fully i mean after driving it for a while not just letting it warmup at idle) warmed up ?
