Stuff expands when it warms up, you could have a bearing or something that's got no play when it's cold, but develops some play when hot.

Took it to infiniti. After a day they called saying they are going to replace the engine. I get to hold on to the loaner until the new engine comes in as they decided it could be a safety issue. Right Before I took it to infiniti I did a round trip drive from Washington DC to Toronto lol.

new engine is running great no more of that nasty sound. I am following a hard break-in routine (revving it high often) as opposed to babying it. ^^^ btw I was in Boston last week and it was FREEEEEEEEEEEZING COLD. I've been to toronto quite often but the cold from last week in boston was at a natural disaster level.

My Girlfriend's G35 sedan/automatic with 37,000 miles started clanking in the valvetrain area upon starting cold yesterday. It was upper engine and quite loud. There were no noises or oil consumption prior to yesterday and oil changes are regular with Mobile 1. The engine has always been super quiet with no camshaft or lifter noise at all. I have it at the dealership. When the car warmed up, the sound although diminished was still there. They have changed the oil and will check it this morning when cold. I have not heard from them, and assume this will not be a minor job.

I'm assuming the long block doesn't include the plenum as I still have the old plenum after the long block assembly was replaced ?

It's just a long block, everything else is swapped over from your original VQ.
