Shifting Techniques

I was just curious as to what shifting tecniques you guys use to get the best track times. Like what RPM's do you normally shift at and etc?

There's no one set RPM at which to shift, it completely depends on the turn you're entering and what happens after it. You want to stay near the HP peak of the car, so generally you stay at high RPM. You want to downshift before the turn so that you're in the right gear for when you get on the gas after the apex, but the correct gear depends on the upcoming turn and the speed of the current turn. Sometimes, if you are near redline before the turn, it's worthwhile to short-shift since shifting wastes time later, and you don't really need that power in the turn. So, no easy answers; it depends on the turn, just keep running laps with a timer, and vary your technique and see what happens to lap times.

Thanks for your reply marcinr. I reworded my inquiry to include drag times as this is really what I'm likely to be doing the most.

probably getting a dyno of your own car would be the best to see where your best power is. and from that you can decide other things such as when to shift to be in the best spot on the power band
