Maintenace questions

Hey guys,

I bought my car about 6 months ago. 2006 g35 coupe. I live in Canada
I used to drive an acura EL and the maintenance schedule was very detailed (ie coolant and tranny oil needs changing every 48K etc)

I was looking at my owners maintenance manual and it has either preferred, schedule 1 or schedule 2. Based on whats outlined on the front page I would fit under schedule 1 im assuming. Seems that if I go with this schedule though, my book has no point at which I need my tranny oil changed or coolant. Its just insepctions?? (Preferred recomms at every 48 K)

It seems most of the items are just "inspection" only. I prefer just to change things when its time based on mileage (or thats been my past experience, and then once in awhile get things "inspected")

Talked to the service guy and never got a completely clear answer either - said tranny every 72,000 km or every 4 years...coolant depending? Gave me a brochure which just says "preferred" tranny/coolant OPTION at 48,000km?

So what do you guys do in terms of maintenance? Obviously change the oil at every 6,000KM (canadian). But what about the tranny oil and coolant, spark plugs, brake fluid, fuel filter etc? What mileage do you guys change yours?

Any advice appreciated. A bit confused with Nissan/Infinitis schedule. Newbie

I'll try to speak Canadian, so bear with me (what's an Acura EL?).

Oil - Dino: Stick to Schedule 1 (6K)
Oil - Synthetic: Schedule 2 seems a bit long for me, so I shoot for around 9K (5500 miles) using Amsoil 5W-30 full synth.
Tranny: 48K maybe, 72K probably, 96K for sure. For me, 48K is about 2.5 years, so I'd rather change it at the earlier interval since I want to keep my car for a long time.
Diff(s): Every 48K. It's kinda messy, but cheap and easy to do.
Transfer Case (AWD): Do with Tranny.
Plugs: Book says 169K, but I'd swap them sooner, like maybe 100-120K. But definitely inspect them before your powertrain warranty is up so you can check for leaking valve covers.
Coolant: The book is fine, so 96K
Brake Fluid: Not sure. I'm doing mine in late spring when I install some 06 brakes, so I'm going to be bleeding anyway. Might as well put new fluid in.
Belts: Book says inspect at 96K. Belts are cheap, so I'm replacing mine at that time.
Fuel Filter: A "maintenance free" item, so maybe every 150K or so?

Not sure where you went, but they're just trying to sell you services regardless of what the manual says. You don't need to change the tranny fluid at 48K unless you're "pulling a trailer, using a camper or car top carrier, driving on rough or muddy roads". I doubt there's more than a handful of G35's on the entire continent that would qualify for this, but it's like engine oil, keep it clean and your car will thank you.

Having read the previous post that's kinda confusing and not totally accurate. Drive belts should be changed every 3 to 5 years or when the begin to show cracks/wear. Trans/Differential should be serviced every 30K miles. Radiator fluid should be changed every 2 to 3 years along with brake fluid too. Engine oil/filter s/b changed every 3,500 miles or if your smart enough to use synthetic every 4500 miles. (I change mine more frequently than that) Every thing else is pretty standard, brakes and wiper blades when needed. I'd also change the cabin filter every 30K miles or if your car isn't garaged more frequently. I also believe we have 100K mile plugs in our Infinities, changing them prior to that might be a good idea if you expect maximum performance. Good Luck....

I was replying in Canadian, i.e. kilometers.

Only thing I might disagree with you on is coolant. If it's a healthy green color and doing it's job, then the regular maintenace interval of 60,000 miles (96K) is fine. If you're in sunny California, that might be different, but the OP is in Canada. Engine oil change interval is 3750 per the manual. More frequently is obviously better, but hardly necessary.
