Tire Review

When I purchased my 35x a couple weeks ago it came with Westlake tires (215/55/17). Has anyone ever used these before? Any reviews/feedback?

thanks

Sounds like the cheapest they could find, it's possible it was done to hide improper wear due to a bad alignment. I'd definitely take it and have the alignment checked out.

From WikiAnswers:
The are made by Hangzhou Zhonge Rubber Company LTD in China. In 2007 some of their LT tires for SUVs and Vans had to be recalled because of tread separation danger in Washington State.

The car drives fine from what I can tell. Would new tires throw the alignment off?

I think Wrathernaut is saying the previous tires may have shown wear due to bad alignment and so whoever you bought the car from put on the cheapest tires they could find. Or maybe the old ones were just worn out.

Alright. Thanks for the info.

In the future I will be going to a better tire but I do not want to spend a fortune...any suggestions?

Tons of tire threads on here, and everyone has his opinions/preferences -- search it up. Hankook Ventus and Falken 452 are popular and reasonably-priced.

Check the alignment though, it'll make those tires last a lot longer.

Even if it tracks straight, the camber or toe could be off. If you rub your across the face of the tires (outside to inside and back - do this to all four tires) and it feels smooth going one way, and rough the other, you definitely need to get the alignment checked.

Do any of you know how to do a search? Either here or on the interwebs? Good lord, you just spew forth whatever opinion you have on the size without doing a simple search. And two of you weren't even close. Sad.

04-06 G35x came with 215/55-17 as the stock size. 07-08 G35x came with 225/55-17 as the stock size. This took me all of 30 seconds to find. Please don't post information you "think" is correct without actually checking on it.

I don't have a review, but my guess is they suck mightily. Several online sellers have them in that size for about $70 per tire, i.e. they're junk. Probably hard as a rock and slippery through turns. It's common for a dealership to put the absolute cheapest tires they can on a car they receive in trade if it needs new rubber. Also, people turning in leased vehicles will do the same thing.

My G35x came with Mastercraft tires that were rated at 50K or 60K miles, i.e. hard as a rock and pure crap. Luckily, I sold them to a Maxima owner who put about 30K-35K miles a year on his car and was looking for a high mileage tire.
