keyfob battery question

if i dont use the second keyfob should i take the battery out? im jus thinking like most electronics if u dont use it the battery will start to leak and discharge and cause build up on the terminals. and if i do remove the battery itll lose the program right?

I think the car is programmed, not the fob.

What programming are you talking about? You won't lose anything from replacing the batteries. The only times I've seen batteries leak were on electronics that had the batteries for over 8 years.

^^how does a key fob tell a particular vehicle to un/lock its door? from the program code set on the keyfob from the vehicle right or no?

well i have an 03 and i doubt the second keyfobs been used much. and now that im the new owner the second keyfob will def not be used. so i wanted to be safe and remove the battery permanently from the keyfob not being used cus i dont want the batt to leak if left in there.

Oh, that. Well the programming isn't stored on the batteries. I'm sure it's stored on some memory module inside. Think of it this way, if you unplug a computer, you hard drive doesn't get wiped out, right?

I replaced the battery in my key fob a while ago, nothing changed.

Yes, I do know about the battery on the motherboard for the bios settings. Like I said about the example with the hard drive, although you cut off it's power supply, all your data is still intact and continues exactly where you left off.

if you replace the battery, you wont lose the program. but the OP is asking about taking it out for a long period of time. yes, it will lose the program if you take the battery out ans store it. its a simple procedure to reprogram though. can be done in 15 seconds

I know. I know because I've changed my battery personally, along with endless other people who've had no ill effects from changing their battery.

I don't blame you for being skeptical, I'm no Nissan engineer after all. I think your best bet would be to call your Nissan/Infiniti dealer and ask them.
