Synthetic Oil, your thoughts

Just looking for everyone's opinion on using synthetic oil in the G35. If you do what brand and why and what interval between oil changes? Also what type of oil filters are you using.

I'm using Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W30 and FRAM 2X protection filter.

... Also anyone running with synthetic transmission fluid in there automatic tranny. How the hell do you check the transmission fluid on this engine?

Cheers.

come on man, you got to search a bit. There are hundreds of oil threads.

Anyway my opinion would be to change that filter to a purolator, and that oil to anything castrol. If you want synthetic I recommend German castrol (european formula).

Royal Purple and K&N filter from first oil change to 20k, switching to Pennzoil Platinum and Purolator PureONE filter from here on out. May switch to Pennzoil Ultra after 25k miles...

also look at the number of samples taken per said oil manufacturer.. Notice some have a lot more samples than the others, which statistically would vary the results by a large margin. That chart also doesnt tell you what the oil was used for or where it came from. Use a decent oil and change it regularly.

OP - Switch to a better filter, like Wix. Also, you have an Amsoil warehouse right there in 'sauga.

As for the AT, you can buy a dipstick to install, our cars don't come with one. You should probably stick with Nissan Matic-J for now (or whatever your manual says) since I assume you're still under warranty.

Exactly.
Any proper weight, quality oil will do the job.
It isn't rocket science. Every car and motorcycle forum has huge discussions on which brand of oil to use. I have never read about any engine failures, on any forum, because an owner used one brand of oil versus another.

Mobil One full synthetic and Mobil One high flow oil filter.

I usually go way too long between oil changes (5000-7000 miles)

OP-get rid of that fram filter. Worst filter you can buy.

We should get the mods to merge all the stupid oil threads in to one big oily mess
