Repair Advice
I just got a call back from the place inspecting my car and they are telling me I need to replace the front compression rod bushings and the rear tires in order to pass. I'm not bothered by compression rod bushings going bad from reading on these forums about the compression rod issues on our cars. I'm also not bothered about the rear tires at all either. What I'm bothered by is that they want to charge me $1750 to take care of everything. I'm sure I can find a good deal on tires somewhere, but it's the compression rod bushings I really don't know much about. Any ideas on how I could take care of this compression rod bushing issue without shelling out so much money?

1. Buy the bushings from Riverside Infiniti, a very respected sponsor/vendor here on the forums.
2. Remove the compression rods, replace the bushings, and reinstall the rods (you'll need to find a shop with a press to install the bushing into the rod)
3. ...or just take everything to a good shop (not the dealership) and have them do the labor. Shouldn't take them more than an hour or two if they know what they're doing.
4. Tell the place that inspected your vehicle to go f* themselves. What a scam...overcharging people for repairs so they can pass inspection. The quote they gave you is absolutely ridiculous. The bushings will be about $64 shipped and the 2 hours of labor around $150...$214 total.

Nick, thanks a lot for the quick reply. You answered pretty much every question I had. I actually just got back from telling them to f* themselves. I don't think I'll be going back there again. I'm going to pick up a pair of those bushings from Riverside and try to find a good local shop. Also, (unrelated but I need them to pass inspection), I think I'm going to be getting a pair of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's for the rear. Might get a full set of four, but I'm not sure yet. Thanks again.

Glad I could help. I forgot to mention that after you get the new bushings installed, you should have your alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
Good call on the Ventus V12 Evos. I run those myself and have been very happy with them. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you decide to go with that choice.

I took the car to a garage down the road who told me the compression rod bushings looked fine. Needless to say I'll never go to the original place again.
After all was said and done, a pair of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's for the rear, tire installation/balancing, an alignment, and an inspection cost me a total of about $450. So I ended up saving about $1300 by taking it somewhere else.
Thanks for the help guys

You need to BLACK BALL the first shop you went to, let everyone you know how they tried to "Rip you Off!" If nothing else that's big time dishonesty! HAHA, you should have asked them if you had STUPID written on your forehead. I've done that it embarrasses the **** out of thieves....
