Exclamation New Smog check Procedure in CA

I just read about this in today's newspaper. Once smog stations switch over to the new methods of checking smog, it is going to be difficult for those that have modified exhaust to get pass smog.

I think there will be an easy way to trick the system.

Time for UpRev to add an "Emissions Test" map . Since it uses the computer to determine if the car passes or not, I'm sure someone will figure out a way to fool it.

I don't see how this is going to negatively affect people with modified exhausts? If the cats haven't been changed than I would assume the pollution the car would put out would be about the same. Why would the ECU log more emissions ? Also there still has to be an upper limit on maximum C02 emissions, I can't imagine they could fail your smog certificate if you were simply running a certain percentage above oem.

This is how they test in ma.

It's easy to pass. No check engine light and you are usually good. I ran my mustang through with aftermarket high flow cats and exhaust and always passed when hooked up.
