New guy intro: same old questions
Hi everyone,
I picked up this 2005 6MT G35 sedan a short while ago and have been enjoying it for the most part ever since. I have been trolling this forum for a while now so I am familiar with most of the cars short comings and have done a ton of research before and after buying the car. The two things that bother me the most are of course the clutch and the oil burning. The oil burning I can actually get over. If I have a to add a little oil once in while big deal. I put in about 1/2 quart or so every 3000 miles. The clutch I have gotten used to but it still sucks. It is just not the same as the clutch in most vehicles that grabs close to the floor. Has anyone ever experimented with fabricating a new clutch pedal and/or assembly that changes the leverage points, travel distance, etc? It seems like that is the only real way to solve the problem. I will be taking a crack at this soon but I was wondering if anyone else has attempted it already? Before the G35 my main ride was a 1994 Sentra Se-R. This car ripped. To make a long story short I had a GT28R turbo huffing 9lbs of boost into the stock SR20DE. Once I got the setup dialed I drove the car like this for years, it was rock solid reliable. Hopefully the G35 treats me just as well as the sentra! On to the pics:

It takes a little getting used to the clutch engagement point, but once you do, it will feel normal. I wanted to do the same thing when I bought my car way back in '03, but after a couple months, I completely failed to notice it anymore. My other car has a more typical clutch engagement point, and I can go back and forth between them with no issues either. I'd say, sleep on it a couple of months and then decide what you want to do :-)
