Exhaust help and ?'s (08 G35X)

(ORIGINALLY POSTED IN PROPER FORUM, BUT NO RESPONSE)

I have a 08 G35x and im looking to get maybe a catback exhaust. i was talking to a friend about it and his dad owns a muffler shop. he said it would be cheaper to buy the mufflers and exhaust tips and have his dads shop run the pipe straight as possible (they also do amateur racing) without the shop looking at it (yet) where can i buy performance mufflers (and tips) for my car and do you all reccomend this or not and why?

Does anyone know what size pipe i should get or will that just depend on the muffler?

i was looking at a catback exhaust made by tanabe but not sure!

just look up an aftermarket setup and copy the specs, compare the prices and see if it's worth it for yourself. people really hate when new guys come on here and want all the answers spoon fed to them w/o any research on their own part.

I have searched alot! Can't seem to find anything on g35x. Everything I search for shows cat-backs only. I guess I will look at specs and attempt to figure it out.

Curtiscr, what are you looking for exactly? Do you want performance or just a different sound? The muffler shop should have access to a muffler that would work for sound. Check out our MARKETPLACE under vendor exhaust for a cat-back system or consider replacing the OE cats with HFCs since that's where most of the restriction is. Not an answer but you have several options, your choice.

Ok thanks Gary, I'm just not to sure about which is better. My goal is performance, but there's a lot I wanna do to my car this spring and I was shooting for the 600$ mark for exhaust.

$600 for a performance exhaust on a newer car like yours is a tough ask, IMO, unless you are hooked up with a shop as it seems you are. Local guy here (interalian) has a nice Fast Intentions setup with Y-pipe that will fit your X for around a grand IIRC.

I mean I could go higher, but I would like to get: md spacer, tires, wheels, exhaust. All by summer if possible. So it just depends. I do want performance over looks so maybe better exhaust instead of rims
