Ahh that makes sense I guess i never thought it would do that at the time. Just figured it was like "buffing". No I have a silver car so it looks fine. My car actually was detailed by a member on here.

I will definitely use another method next time though, thank you for the information!

 

goo gone didnt work for me either... i had to use "goo gone XTREME" or something... go figure

 

Believe it or not, lighter fluid is amazing on tar and adhesive materials. Just wipe it on let it sit for a minute, then start to rub it back and forth. It cause the adhesive to disolve without damaging your paint. You will want to wax the area afterwards.

 

What....^....lighter fluid on a painted surface? Unless you wiped it off immediately you have no clue how much clear coat you removed. GooGone on a rag saturating the glue several times will remove the glue, no reason to go to the extreme of using lighter fluid....scary!

While it does get wiped off immediately, I have never had a problem with using it in the 20+ years of owning black cars. Aside from your statement, do you have anything concrete to backup the claim that lighter fluid actually strips the clearcoat? I tried searching for this, and all I found was folks 'thinking' it might not be good for the paint, but no one giving a definitive answer. Obviously, I would prefer not strip the clear coat, but from my perspective and observing the areas that I have actually used lighter fluid, the paint on my '04 black coupe still looks brand new.

 

Use the backside of a rubber valve stem in a electric drill. This is what most of us use in the dealer when replacing emblems.
