what would you upgrade to???

well im kind of indecisive right now of what direction i want to go in. my g got totaled recently by a drunk driver, and my vs-xx's are coming in about a month or so and my plan was just to get another g. but my parents are like why am i spending my hard earned money on wheels and exhaust when i can just finance a newer car. well i can just sell the rims whenever they get here but im still undecided of what i want to do. so i was just wondering what car would you guys consider upgrading too??

All depends on your budget. Let us know that and we will have a better idea of how to answer.

If you'll have under $20K to spend, I'd get another G35. $20-$25K, a G37, or maybe an 05-06 M3 if you don't mind the insurance and maintenance costs. Beyond that, there really isn't much out there that's comparable to a G35/37 (RWD with good power and reliability). The German cars are all going to be much less reliable, and cost quite a bit more to fix/maintain. There isn't a comparable Japanese car, and the American cars (Camaro, Mustang) have questionable build quality and reliability.

i was considering an e92 m3 but maintenance costs an arm and a leg, and something always goes wrong with them. but anything i get is going to be financed. and the g37 i was thinking about also but the g35 coupe looks way better imo. if i do go with the g37 route im gonna sell the vs-xx's and gonna want a set for the g37

I agree on the looks, the first gen looks better than the second, but my sedan looks better than your former coupe .

Good luck, hope you find the right car.

I'm kinda of in the same boat. I still have the G35 coupe, but looking for something new. My budget is around $25k and my 2 main options are a slightly used 09+ Audi A4 or a brand new 11+ Subaru WRX hatch. Those are my 2 choices since I'm trying to get away from having a coupe.

The A4 will be a big performance drop since you're obviously looking at a 2.0T at that price. It's a nice engine (a friend has an A3), and the DSG is awesome, but it's still only 200HP. Even if you get a 3.2, you'd have to look at a 2008 (BIG price jump from 08 to 09 on the 3.2), but you'd still be looking at a pretty big performance hit (6.9 0-60).

And the Sube will be a major drop in refinement. It's really not comparable to a G35 other than in engine specs. If you don't want a Coupe, then get a G35 or G37 Sedan.

I'm 6'1", and felt totally jammed into the steering wheel with my head pushed into the roof. Great car, you just gotta be short. Even the GS was like that.

Budget? Maybe that was mentioned, but I didn't read it.

Since you are asking: I would buy something cheap on gas, easy to maintain. I LOVE my G, but it sounds like you are spending a good chunk of change on your
[former] car. I'm doing the same thing, but i'm stopping for a few months to regroup my future plans, and possibly go to G-hab.

...any way, I would look into something used and reliable with little maintenance needed (who wants to replace CR bushings and lock/PW motors all the time?).

These are addicting cars to drive. Good luck with your decision.

You know they're bringing back the WRX sedan, right? My wife has an '08 hatch after two WRX sedans, and I hate the hatch. She likes it for the ergonomics, loading camera gear and such, but it's ugly IMO.

I don't mean to be hijacking his thread, but I actually love the looks of the hatch. Especially the 11+ since they became wide-body like the STI. Also, the hatch would be perfect for me. I'm a low-voltage electrician, and always have tons of stuff in my car, even a 4ft ladder. You should see the looks I get. Everyone has pickup trucks and SUV's. I come in with a dropped G35 coupe on DPE's
