Is there a purpose?

For that retarded plastic tray under the car?

Or can I just take it off and leave it off? Not sure if I have a choice right now because it's like breaking loose and it's kind of hanging there...

Just wondering because I might have to get another one if it's actually needed for something, but I can't see what besides being a pain in the ***.

I took mine off and left it off after it took me 20 extra minutes to get to the oil filter.

this topic has been beaten to death from proponents on both sides; some think it's not necessary to have while others argue that a) it protects many vital parts from being hit by debris and crap, b) helps w/ the cooling of certain parts of the car bc it channels air flow a certain way and that's how infiniti designed it.

if you ride dumpted, it's good to have for the protection, albiet minimal, it provides.

Or you could get a metal one, I got one from tollboothwilley and its virtually indestructable, and it has a door for oil changes

Purpose is to protect from rocks and debris from damaging your engine, you can buy aftermarket undertrays...I bought one from zspeedperformance that works great and there is also one made by rareJDM

Looks like I'll have to buy a replacement soon then lol. If I can't get a plastic one for really cheap then I'll buy one of the aluminum ones. The door for the oil changes looks pretty convenient.

Tollboothwilley's costs about the same or less than the OEM, a little cheaper than the Zspeedperformance (which looks like a very good product).

I'm dropped 3" and am on my second Z Speed undercover. I ran over a piece of tire that destroyed the first one and I hate to think what damage that piece would have caused if I had no UC or still had the flimsy stock one. Here's a pic of the first one:

Here's what it looked like new:

Yeah I think they have a purpose.

TBW's are .063" aluminum, vs. .050 for the Zspeedperformance. Although that probably wouldn't make a difference in a hit like BlueDream's, it's significant. They're also 3 piece and he says he can replace single pieces in case of damage.

I probably sound like his salesman, but he's a stand-up guy, and I've never seen anybody say anything bad about him or this product. He's been selling them for 350Zs for quite a while.

The only reason I continue to use mine is because, (A) it protects the underbody of the engine, and (B) It reduces the drag and turbulence of the air underneath the car.. If your not that low then you can remove it if your careful and aware of the potential damage..

It Also helps achieve zero lift at 155 mph,I keep mine on Who cares that it takes 10 extra min to take it off, when I change my oil I relax and enjoy.
