Airbag light came on... where to get it checked out?

My airbag light started blinking so I'm wondering where I should get it checked out. Is there a difference between getting it checked out at the dealership or at a local mechanic?

Any idea what may possibly be wrong?

take that to the dealer. happened to me, turned out to be a faulty airbag module in my seat. got fixed under warranty though. or you can do they key reset thing and it will go away, if it comes back then you got a problem.

it has happened to me a few times and it is always randomly. i have found that resetting the light works. I have taken my car in for maintenance and had it looked at and no one could find an actual problem.

Check this thread. The first post never worked for me, so follow the instructions in the second post.

Thanks for the replies.

So would you guys suggest I reset it first and see if it comes back on before I take it in?

The car isn't under warranty anymore so I'm not sure if they would charge me just to see what's wrong with it...

I had the same problem except I forgot if mine was blinking of if it stayed on, but anyway this was apparently a recall issue and I got my 04 air bag wiring module replaced for free just last month at the dealer. I called in and told them what was wrong and they said it will be fixed for free so give your local dealer a call.

Try the reset first and see if it comes back. Most dealers charge a diagnostic fee (Infiniti of lisle charges $120) and it's highway robbery. Check to see if a local shop would do it for free if the problem persists.
