how much play is there on your clutch pedal?
I recently noticed that I have more "free play" on my clutch pedal. Before, when I try to push down the clutch with my hand, it only moves a little bit like a click unless I push really hard. Now it goes down at least an inch easily. Just wondering how much free play do you guys have on the clutch pedal? I might be using the term wrong, but by "free play" I don't mean the distance between clutch fully pushed in and the friction point. I'm just talking about how much your clutch pedal goes down if you just press on it lightly.
My mechanic found a TSB on the ball pivot for the clutch fork. It might be the cause. Also he said there's a special tool to take apart and service the clutch assembly that only Infiniti dealers have. Is this true?
Thanks in advance.

I think what you're referring to is the engagement point, the distance from the floor to the point where the clutch is engaged. Actually this varies between cars, you can take two of the same identical cars and the point where the clutch engages will be different....rarely the same. My last '92 TT 300ZX engaged 2+" from the floor and about 2" from the top. Hope this helps and answers your question....Gary

I have about a half inch of free play in my clutch pedal, and it gets worse (it seems like) on hot days. I wouldn't recommend starting with the pivot ball on the clutch fork though. I'd start with the Clutch Master Cylinder.
From what reading I've done, that seems to be the best thing to start with replacing.

Mine also gets worse on hot days. When the free play increases, so does the pedal's stickiness. I replaced my clutch fluid with DOT4 fluid but when I got my transmission replaced under warranty, I think the dealer may have replaced it with DOT3 fluid since the sticky clutch problem is getting worse out of the blue.
