The mod bug
I'd say I'm at a 3. I had it bad when I used to be into 4x4 trucks. Spent tons of money on crap. Destroyed resale value. Made few performance gains. Also found that without fail most suspension and engine mods lead to unforeseen problems that you can never really fix.
I've done a good bit of research, here and elsewhere, into engine and exhaust mods for my 06 6MT coupe. In general, most of them are snake oil. Big on promise, big on price, trivial performance gains. A lot of them look good, some of them make different noises, few offer meaningful performance.
I am currently interested in a few fairly boring mods but these will help accomplish specific performance goals for my car:
1) New rotors, EBC Yellowstuff pads, stainless steel brake lines.
2) Tokico D-spec shocks/struts (adjustable)
3) Adjustable antisways front and rear.
4) Maybe a strut tower brace, but probably not.
These can all improve handling and braking for the car. There is no downside to any of them since suspension geometry is unchanged and the shocks, struts and sways can be easily adjusted to whatever my needs happen to be at the time. The Yellowstuff pads will be noisier and dustier but I can live with that.
I have no need for engine mods whatsoever. The car is powerful enough to have a good time with at the track or in the mountains. I have no interest whatsoever in drag racing teenage ricers or rednecks in Mustangs at red lights.
I hate to be a downer about mods but all you have to do is look how many people have paid good money for "grounding kits" to know that most of the mod market is truly snake oil.

I mainly come on the forums to do research of things I want or have heard about and occasionally join in on some unrelated stuff. I'm usually on forums a lot more during the summer when I myself am modding my car since I have some free time.. During the school year I'm usually never on forums.
+1, One tab Facebook, the other tab Driver. just last week G35Driver took over the first tab, and FB got bumped to tab #2 :P
I'm definietly a 3-4, of course on the "#1" side, ill take care of necessities first(ie. my RCA snapped so i need another for my subs) but after everythings up n running, im aaaaall about looks, if my ride looks fresh then i could care less about "drag racing teenage ricers or rednecks in Mustangs at red lights"(stole that from N80, some funny ****!!!). The thing that used to **** me off when i had my 350Z was when i saw a nice/fast car that i wanted to race on the FWY and they just kept cruisin... n now that I've given it a try in the G, I love it lol. just keep cruisin and listen to the civics and SRT-4's pop off with their blow off valves lol. Every now n then ill let the VQ loose n show em what a skyline can do, but aside from that i just love to cruise :]

None of the above applied to me so I didn't vote, yea I'm on DRIVER once in a while and I've almost maxed out the mods I can do to SLICK but I was in no rush to do most of them. I've had 5 exhaust systems on my coupe but two were sponsored. I then of course sold them and bought what I then considered the best exhaust....HKS only to find out their quality control was in the crapper which cost me another few $$ to correct. Now I'm working on a gauge pod/gauges, but I'm dissatisfied with the results of covering it so it goes back Monday for another try....

If I had the money and time my wife wouldn't see very much of me. I'd have to have an automatic power shutoff timer in the garage after 8pm to get me back in the house. Thankfully I don't have the money or that kind of time and my wife is interested in learning about cars as I take new things apart, so it works. Everyone needs a hobby, mine is taking stuff apart and occasionally making it better.
I currently have 16 tabs open on Firefox; Gmail, Facebook, this one, and 13 others that are in some way related to ongoing projects with the car (DIYs, pictures of kickpanel installations, lighting forum, etc). I could bookmark them, but I'm lazy
