Oil in Spark Plug Well #5
Oil in Spark Plug Well #5
So I have 119,000+ on the G now and just changed the plugs for the 2nd time (60K interval) with the NGK Iridium IX. All plugs looked good as far as burn/fuel mix/temp etc, but got a bit of a shock when I pulled #5 and the base of the plug was coated in oil.
The base of the plug/electrode was clean and light tan like it should be with no oily residue at all so the internals seem OK. But a flashlight in the plug well showed lots of oil down there so I assume there must be a seal or O-ring that has failed between the valve cover and the head. I have had the car since new (Dec. 2002) and this is the first thing that has ever gone bad on this car other than normal wear items.
Anybody ever have this happen and if so, how much of a beiotch is it to fix myself? The worthless dealer around here can just lick my sack.
